BE ALERT: “DEATH STAR LAW” In Texas Is Making The State More DANGEROUS

On September 1, 2023, the Texas State Legislature past a measure known by opponents as the Death Star Bill. The Texas Regulator Consistency Act House Bill 2127. This bill preamp cities and counties from trying to pass measures that are stronger than those past at the level of the state across-the-board range in policy areas. In simpler terms, this just means that the Texas Regular Consistency Act takes away the power of cities and counties to make laws that are stronger than the state's laws on certain issues.

CHANGES ARE BEING MADE IN TEXAS

Since the bill was passed, there haven’t been any dramatic changes when it comes to making decisions for the state until now. News Republic says not only is this bill confrontational, but it’s making the summers in Texas more dangerous. It was stated that this bill is confrontational and it attacks Texas home rules cities, many of which are controlled by Democrats, unlike the legislature. Austin, Texas, and Houston are two cities that have decided to have their charter, which allows them to pass and enforce local audiences, which means they’re not specifically prohibited or permitted by federal or state law.

HOW DOES THE "DEATH STAR" LAW CHANGE THE DYNAMIC IN TEXAS?

Texans, who live in urban areas say that this law is controversial because it makes the communities less safe and more vulnerable to environmental, hazards, erosion of local control, rollback of environment and regulations, disregard for local emergencies, impact on public health, and fear of increased carbon in missions is also something that Texans feel will suffer from this particular bill. This debate is continuous and Texans are voicing their concerns about the new law in their daily lives and communities. But the real question is, is there something we can do about it?
