Here’s Why Autumn is the Most Wonderful Time of the Year in Central Texas
Autumn officially begins on Wednesday, September 22, and in my opinion, this is the most wonderful time of the year. Here's why.
Sights, Sounds, and Smells
I'm not a big fan of Christmas, but I definitely love fall. It’s that time of the year when eating pumpkin anything makes sense.
You get to pull out your favorite crockpot and make that family secret chili that everyone loves.
Every candle in the house smells like apple pie, cinnamon, or both.
You get to see not one but two of the Charlie brown specials.
Football season is back, and if that doesn’t get you excited, let’s not forget Thanksgiving and Black Friday!
Tryptophan and iPhones
It's also that time of year where you stuff yourself like a turkey and then stand in line for hours to get the brand new iPhone - an experience with its own strange sort of charm. We are living the American dream, people.
Fall Carnivals and Events
But besides iPhones, pumpkins, and grandma's famous dressing, let’s not forget that Central Texas will have really neat events for not only sweethearts and couples, but also for the children.
For example, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Killeen hosts an October festival every year.
The Robinson Pumpkin Patch is always a fun place to take the babies so they can pick out their favorite pumpkin, and as a family you guys can get to carving pumpkins while spending time together.
This historic Westphalia Parish Hall will have its annual homecoming and picnic on October 10 this year.
Of course, there'll also be plenty of Halloween events and haunted houses. Keep an eye out, because we'll bring you information about those soon!
Turkey Day
My all-time favorite event is the Thanksgiving dinner, where champions are born
Take my house, for example. The women come in the kitchen like culinary warriors and prepare dishes that have been passed down from generation to generation, and every dish contains history, precision, and most importantly love.
Keep Your Eyes Peeled
That's just to a name a few things that make autumn the best time of year in Central Texas. Now of course this is the beginning of fall, so we are just starting the events. I can assure you that during the season, I will have plenty of opportunities and notifications about fall happenings for not only Killeen but all of Central Texas!
