R&B's biggest night was held a couple of weeks ago at the 2018 Soul Train Awards which aired last night (Nov. 25th) on BET. The show hosted by Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell was a fun filled salute to the R&B greats of today and the future while paying homage to the greats of the past and it was the top trending topic on Twitter last night.

I watched the show last night and enjoyed it very much so here are 3 things I learned while watching:

  • 1

Ella Mai & Bruno Mars Were The Big Winners

Capping off an incredible debut year, Ella Mai took home 3 awards including "Song Of The Year" for the inescapable "Boo'd Up", Best Female Artist and The Ashford & Simpson Songwriters Award. Bruno Mars took home Best Male R&B artist and Video Of The Year for his monster smash with Cardi B "Finesse (Remix)".

Erykah Badu Is Indeed A Living Legend

Since bursting upon the scene in the mid-90's with her "neo-soul" sound, Erykah Badu has now been christened "The Godmother Of Soul" for her still timeless music and wild expressions showcasing her "free spirit". She definitely deserved the "Soul Train Legend Award". Since BET doesn't want to release the footage, if you have about 15 minutes, enjoy her performance at a "tiny desk" for NPR and you'll understand why she's amazing!

Faith Evans Wins Lady Of Soul Award

Faith is getting her well-deserved flowers now as she was named the "2018 Lady Of Soul" recipient and she delivered a killer performance featuring a medley of her hits while her new husband the infamous "Stevie J" of "Love & Hip Hop" fame was in attendance. Somewhere Joseline Hernandez is hyperventilating watching "Steebie" get all this love after getting with Faith.
