$200+ Million Is a Great Start, but the Dallas Mavericks Must Do More
What’s the Deal?
The Dallas Mavericks did the right thing and finally gave Luka Dončić something to celebrate.
Luka just penned an extension worth $207 million over five years according to a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. The extension is set to take effect when the 2022-23 season kicks off.

True Talent
In his three seasons playing in the National Basketball Association, Luka has been a dominant presence on the court, bringing the Mavericks back to the postseason on a regular basis and having All-Pro caliber seasons along the way. He's averaged 25.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game over that 3 years span.
Going for Gold
Doncic just made a solid run at the Tokyo Olympics, helping bring the Slovenian men’s basketball team to a fourth-place finish in the tournament.
The Slovenian team made their inaugural appearance in the Olympics and managed to surprise a lot of people along the way. The All-star performances of Luka have officially put Slovenia on the map as substantial competitor on the international stage.
What’s Next?
The Dallas Mavericks need to figure out how to take the next step in their NBA playoff ambitions. They have made the postseason back-to-back years, but have not been able to keep the ball rolling.
Now that they have the main piece locked down in Luka, Mark Cuban and the rest of the organization need to find a way to make it all come together. The best way to accomplish this is to build a supporting cast of consistent shooters around this phenomenal player if they want to make it into the next round.
