KWTX reported that authorities probably got an unexpected surprise when they pulled a man over in Bryan for having an expired paper tag.

Officers in Bryan, Texas recovered over 1,400 stolen golf balls from the Traditions Golf Club in the vehicle of Shane Mix.

Shane Mix, 43, of Joshua is currently being held in Brazos County Jail, with bonds that are totaling up to $49,000.

Besides charges of theft for the stolen golf balls, Mix is being held for other warrants in Frisco, Denton, and Tarrant County.

Authorities pulled Mix over around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and quickly made the alarming discovery. Mix was towing a trailer carrying a golf cart, that was recently spray painted black.

Officers closely looked and noticed that the golf cart had been freshly spray painted. Investigating further, authorities found 1,404 practice balls with the Traditions Golf Club logo on them. Managers from the golf club said the balls were stolen from the driving range at the club. Also, the golf balls were worth over $3,500.
