With the recent release of Coming 2 America, the sequel to the classic cult hit made back in 1988, I got to thinking about star Eddie Murphy's other classic films.

Murphy's career began on July 9, 1976 when he performed at a talent show and was such a hit with the audience that he set a goal for himself to become famous by the time he was 18. He was a year late, first appearing on Saturday Night Live at the age of 19, but we'll just say he was "fashionably late", and it certainly didn't hurt his career.

His time at Saturday Night live was a turbulent one given that the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players had all departed, but Murphy quickly became the biggest name on the show and pretty much saved it.

In 1982, Murphy was cast alongside Nick Nolte in his movie debut, 48 Hrs. After that, he'd go on to become one of the most bankable names in movie history, appearing in a string of legendary live-action movies from the 80's onward and venturing into animation with 1998's Mulan 2001's Shrek.

Whether he's talking to animals, wearing purple tight leather doing stand-up, or playing multiple characters in one movie, here are my Top 12 favorite Eddie Murphy Movies of All Time.
