21 Savage Sings Usher’s “Burn”
When Usher dropped his fourth studio album Confessions in 2004, it quickly became one his most successful records, going eight times platinum before the year would end. It holds up today, 12 years later, due in large part to the personal candor of such songs as "Confessions Part II" and "Burn," and 21 Savage recently captured the emotion of the latter on Snapchat.
The Atlanta rapper would have been nine going on ten when Confessions was released, but a classic Usher ballad truly carries a trademark timelessness. Above, 21 Savage belts out lines from the track while driving, feeling nostalgic for perhaps something or someone. Usher's current single "No Limit" features Young Thug, who has collaborated and taken photos with 21, meaning a connection might just be in Thugger's hands.
21 Savage linked up with another Atlanta staple, Metro Boomin, for his last mixtape Savage Mode in July. The nine track release featured Future as its lone guest. December's Slaughter King however featured Dreezy, Trouble, and production from both Metro and Zaytoven. More recently, he's collaborated with Juicy J and Young Dolph for "Lit," the video for which dropped last month, and dropped "Drippin" with Lil Yachty and Sauce Walka in May.
Speaking with XXL in October of 2015, Savage listed Gucci Mane and T.I. as artists he grew up listening to, so it's clear he's been heavily influenced by past Atlanta sounds. Watch his Snap singing up above, with the rapper's 2016 Freshman profile interview included below.
