Check out this body camera video of Garland, Texas police officers pulling a man from a burning car just seconds before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

KXXV Channel 25 reports that the incident happened near the Garland Police Department just before 3 AM Wednesday.

The body camera footage was released on Facebook later in the day, and shows the officers responding to the single vehicle accident.

The passenger was ejected during the crash and the vehicle caught fire. Once the officer noticed an unconscious man still in the car, they immediately jumped into action, while dealing with the heat from the fire, to get the man out.

The Garland Police Department wrote, “With only seconds left, the officers desperately pulled the unconscious man out of the burning car before it became fully engulfed. We are very proud of these officers for their quick response and heroic acts."

The police reported that the driver and passenger were taken to a local hospital and treated for their injuries, which are said to be non-life threatening.

All too often we only see negative news stories about the police and the job they do, so it's nice to see a positive story of heroism from our men in blue.

On a sad note, Channel 25 News also reported on the death toll COVID-19 has taken on law enforcement officers in 2020 and 2021. The numbers come from the Officer Down Memorial Page, which tracks those who have died in the line of duty.

The page says 245 law enforcement officers passed away in 2020 and 228 so far in 2021 from COVID-19.

It's a stark reminder that this pandemic is not behind us, and we can take simple steps to help keep our emergency responders safe.
