With the national spotlight and attention being focused on Fort Hood, one aspect we tend to forget about when it comes to our military service members and veterans is their mental health. Despite years of reports of veterans committing suicide, the issue of mental health remains a topic that needs attention.

That's why this Saturday, our friends at VFW Post 3892 in Harker Heights will be hosting "A Day to Change Direction" at their location at 201 VFW Drive beginning at 10:00 AM.

The VFW and "Give An Hour" are partnering up to promote dialogue on mental health, emotional suffering and access to care. The focus will be suicide prevention and there will be organizations there can help you get the help you need if you're suffering with negative thoughts.

Veterans and civilians are welcome to attend and please wear a mask as all COVID protocols will be followed.

If you are feeling like all hope is lost and you are having thoughts of ending it all, please call someone close to you or the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255 and get the help you need.
