Back in November, the Friends of Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery and volunteers prepared and placed more than 8,000 wreaths at the graves of veterans to honor their service and let their families know they are remembered.

Now it's time to retrieve all those wreaths to put them away safely until next year.

If you'd like to help, be at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery Saturday, January 11. The retrieval starts at 10 AM at 11463 SH 195, but Hilary Shine with the City of Killeen says those who'd like to help should try to get there early. Parking is free.

The cemetery has been participating in the Wreath Project since 2006. It's supported entirely by volunteers and donations. If you've never visited, this is a great opportunity. There are beautiful memorials on the grounds, and it's a very peaceful place. Just visit respectfully.
