Disaster Declared in Texas to Halt “Flesh-Eating” Pest Invasion
According to Fox News, Governor Greg Abbott has issued a disaster declaration in Texas due to the possible spread of the New World screwworm fly. Abbott issued the declaration to better protect livestock and wildlife in the state. Because the New World screwworm fly is spreading north from Mexico, it poses a potential threat to areas along the United States’ southern border.

Here Is What Governor Greg Abbott Had To Say About The Possible Threat
Governor Abbott stated that although the New World screwworm fly is not currently present in Texas or elsewhere in the United States, its northward spread from Mexico poses a serious threat to Texas’s livestock industry and wildlife. The governor went on to say that state law authorizes him to act to prevent infestations that could cause severe damage to Texas property, adding that he will not wait for such harm to reach the state’s livestock.
Why Is Livestock So Important In Texas?
This parasite should be taken very seriously, as the governor emphasized, because it could cause significant harm to livestock in Texas. For many Texans, livestock is not only an occupation but also a way of life.
