Chief Sherri Gibson, head of the DPS Driver License Division, emphasized the public safety benefits of the redesign. “The way driver’s licenses are designed can make a big difference in terms of public safety,” she said. “This new design will make it even more difficult for criminals to produce counterfeit cards, and it enhances our ability to protect Texas identities from being stolen.” When I spoke with residents about the upcoming changes, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Most people support the redesign, especially if it helps deter scammers and identity thieves. This update couldn’t have come at a better time.
