A Temple man is in the Bell County Jail on suspicion of having murdered a mother and son in Harker Heights.

According to the Harker Heights Police Department, Copperas Cove police were contacted around 11:30 PM Wednesday, September 30 by a citizen requesting a welfare check. Police were asked to check on the residents of a home in the 2500 block of Red Fern Drive in Harker Heights.

When officers were unable to get a response by knocking on the door of the home, they forced their way inside and found Gina David Kearney, 55, and Michael David, 35, dead from gunshot wounds.

The man believed responsible for their deaths, 36-year-old Jerry Wayne Baker, was arrested by Harker Heights police on Friday, October 2nd. The following day, Baker was charged with capital murder and  booked into the Bell County Jail, where he remained Wednesday, October 7 with bond set at $2 million.

Our news partners at KWTX report that a witnesses told police they saw Jerry Baker shoot Michael David multiple times, then heard more shots fired inside the room where Gina Kearney was found. Officers reportedly found a 9 mm shell casing, bullets, and blood in the areas where both victims were gunned down.
