Black History Month

Did you know that Arthur Ashe remains the only African-American player to ever to win the men's singles at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, or Australian Open. Ashe died from complications with AIDS on Feb. 6, 1993.

On this day in Black History the first Negro Baseball League, The Southern League of Colored Base Ballists was founded in 1920.

February is recognized as Black History Month. But why is that and what is Black History month?

As we come to a close of Black History month, lets make an effort to learn about HISTORY everyday, so that none is forgotten.

Mary Fields, also known as Stagecoach Mary, was the first black female postal carrier and the second female United States Postal worker. Born as a slave sometime in 1832,  Mary stood 6 feet tall and weighed approximately 200 pounds. She usually had a pistol strapped under her apron and a jug of whisky at her side.

This documentary explores the largest forced human migration in recorded history that took place from the 16th through the 19th centuries.

I find it very disturbing that most of today's youth have no idea what the Underground Railroad was. Most of today's youth have no clue of Black History either. To make matters worse, we had a Real Housewife of Atlanta, whose grandfather was apart of the Civil Rights movement, think the Underground Railroad was an actual train system. This is so sad.
