Check out this weird hit-and-run story out of Killeen.

According to police, around 9:25 PM Thursday, March 4, Killeen police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Trimmier Road and Stan Schlueter Loop to assist a Killeen Police Sergeant who was involved in a crash.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that the sergeant was traveling north on Trimmier Road and entered the intersection on a green light when his vehicle was struck by a dark-colored Dodge Challenger travelling west on Stan Schlueter Loop that ran a red light.

The driver of the Dodge Challenger failed to stop and render aid, instead speeding off.

This is where it gets weird.

A short time after the crash, responding officers were notified that someone was attempting to report a Dodge Challenger stolen. Investigators say it turns out that the person trying to report the vehicle stolen was the person involved in the hit-and-run crash.

The suspect was located, arrested, and charged with making a false report to a police officer.

Police have identified the suspect as 43-year-old Tajuan Carvell Brooks. He was in the Killeen City Jail Friday awaiting arraignment, and has been charged with accident involving injury/fail to stop and render aid.

"The investigation to this crash is ongoing and at this time no other information will be released," Killeen Police Department Public Affairs Officer Ofelia Miramontez said Friday.

In other Killeen crime news, a man suspected of shooting another man at The Spot Bar & Restaurant last Sunday, February 28 has been arrested by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. More information on that story can be found here.
