Temple drivers are putting serious mileage on SUVs.

According to data compiled by Julie Blackley with car buying site iSeeCars.com, the average driver in America logs 11,987 miles on their vehicle per year. Four of the top 5 autos most likely to rack up those miles in Temple are SUVs, with one mini-van breaking the combo.

The findings came after iSeeCars.com analyzed more than 2.3 million sales of 10-year-old vehicles, identifying the top 13 with the highest annual mileage. You can see the full study here.

I'm not surprised by these numbers. I'm just speculating here, but I believe SUVs dominate the list because Central Texas is such a great place for families. You've got our local lakes, plenty of youth sports and other activities, and so many options when it comes to shopping, restaurants, and family fun centers.

You can also pack a lot of groceries into an SUV, which is great considering Temple was recently named the American city with the most-affordable groceries.

Now I'd like to propose a new study to determine which items stuffed into the nooks and crannies of SUVs by bored kids are most likely to end up clogging the vacuums at car washes. My guess would be food wrappers with stale french fries stuck to them.
