Sad news, as a soldier from Marion, Iowa was killed performing maintenance at Fort Hood over the weekend.

KCRG in Iowa reports that 22-year-old private First Class Mason Webber joined the U.S. Army back in 2018 and had only been serving 18 months at Fort Hood when he died September 5th while performing maintenance on a Bradley fighting vehicle.

Webber was "an indelible part of the squadron" as described by Lt. Col. Adam Cannon, who says his loss is deeply felt.

“The Darkhorse Squadron is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of Private First Class Mason Webber,” said Lt. Col. Cannon wrote in a statement from Fort Hood. “We send our most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of Pfc. Webber. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them in this trying time."

Webber’s awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

The Army Combat Readiness Center is investigating what happened.
