Should The City Of Killeen Build Its Own Arena? [POLL]
Over the weekend in Central Texas, thousands attended graduation ceremonies at The Bell County Center in Belton. All 4 KISD high schools (Killeen, Ellison, Shoemaker, Harker Heights) held their ceremonies over the weekend and the Bell County Expo Center quickly reached capacity at each ceremony.
The problems stemming from this were many including families refusing to adhere to the arena's "No reserved seating" policy, holding seats for family members who were running late and causing a "standing room" only situation by the time the ceremony started, also traffic was a nightmare as thousands of local residents attempted to cram their way into Belton. It also lead to some attendees not being able to enter the arena and see their child graduate after it reached capacity.
While one easy solution to this problem could be that KISD schools should consider "ticketing" for these events, others ask why should residents of Bell County's most populous city drive 10 plus minutes to Belton? This has lead some people to ask the question: Should The City of Killeen consider building its own arena?
With the rapid growth of Killeen and its surrounding areas, and its annual events and concerts which appear more frequently than before, should the City of Killeen (even though they are in the middle of a budget crisis, which makes this question purely rhetorical right now) consider building a new arena or expand the seating of Civic & Conference Center to accommodate the growth of our area?
