Killeen will soon have a new city manager.

During a meeting Tuesday, the City Counsel reached a consensus to hire Ron Olson. Olson will be appointed during a special meeting on Tuesday, February 7. He's expected to start work the following day.

“We are excited to welcome Mr. Olson to the City of Killeen and look forward to working with him,” said Mayor Jose Segarra said of the decision. “He has a tremendous amount of experience, and we believe that he will be a true asset to Killeen.”

Olson was chosen after a series of meetings with candidates from across the nation that began in October. He has 38 years of experience in local government, including serving as manger of five cities and administrator of an entire county.

Olson's most recent job was as city manager of Corpus Christi.

The Killeen Daily Herald interviewed Olson after Tuesday's meeting. You can hear what he had to say in the video above.
