Several Fire Department crews are working to recover two people feared dead after a trench collapsed in Jarrell, Texas.

Officials are saying the two men are presumed dead. Fire crews from Round Rock, Georgetown, Austin, Temple and Salado fire departments were working to recover the two men.

Jarrell Construction Accident

According to our news partners at KWTX, crews were called earlier this morning, about 8:40am, after a trench collapsed at a construction site trapping 2 people about 20 feet down. The two men were digging a sewer line at the site of a new home development when the accident occurred.

KXAN reports that the Jarrell Fire Department says the accident happened at a  construction site near the Interstate 35 frontage road around exit 275.

Sad But True

According to BeLatina, Texas leads the country in labor-related accidents and workplace deaths and injuries among Hispanics in 13 of the last 20 years.

Update: KXXV reports that rescue efforts lasted for about four hours before the two men were confirmed deceased. The names of both men have not been released but next of kin have been contacted.

Nick Spinetto, a spokesperson with the city of Jarell, said, "This is an unfortunate accident. Our hearts and thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time."
