Pickleball Craze Hits Killeen: New Courts at Long Branch Park
The city of Killeen has announced a new renovation project at Long Branch Park, set to begin in September. The project will convert the existing tennis court into four new pickleball courts — an exciting development for the community! This addition provides residents on the north side of the city with another great recreational activity, beyond the usual options like basketball and swimming.

KILLEEN ARE YOU READY FOR PICKLE BALL
The renovation is expected to take about two weeks. During this time, Long Branch Park will be closed for the installation of nets, court furniture, and to allow proper curing of the new playing surface. According to the city, the Killeen City Council allocated $25,000 for the project in partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife, which awarded a matching grant on May 5, 2025. The grant will reimburse 50% of the cost — or $12,500.

Antonio Murphy, Executive Director of Parks and Recreation, stated: “Pickleball has grown tremendously in Killeen, and our community has been asking for more opportunities to play.” He went on to say that the project “adds to our recreation options and strengthens community connections.” I couldn’t agree more.
To all my fellow pickleball players — get ready for some fun on the north side of Killeen!
