A local teacher and softball coach was booked into the Bell County Jail Friday and charged with Sexual Assault of a Child.

Online records indicate that 40-year-old Gus Leroy Beuershausen was booked at 12:58 PM, and that he remained in the Bell County Jail at the time of this article's publication. No bond had been set as of 6:47 PM Friday.

Our news partner, KWTX, reports that Beuershausen was Academy High School's softball coach and taught world history. All mention of Beuershausen had been removed from the Academy ISD website Friday evening, and superintendent Kevin Sprinkles wrote the following in a letter sent home to parents:

We have reported the arrest to (the Texas Education Agency) and as of today, the staff member is no longer employed by the Academy ISD.

At this time, we have no evidence of any other inappropriate relationships or conduct, but we have begun an investigation to be sure no other students were affected in any way.

If you don't live in Academy or Temple, but Beuershausen seems familiar, he was in the news last year when the Academy Lady Bees' softball championship rings were stolen from his truck.
