Lauryn Hill Responds To Her Daughters Comments About Discipline

Reclusive singer Lauryn Hill is back in the public spotlight after her 21 year old daughter took to social media recently and shared her thoughts about her upbringing.

According to CNN, Selah Marley, a model, artist and daughter of Hill and her former romantic partner, Rohan Marley, spoke in a 2 hour Instagram Live video about her relationship with her parents and how long-term effects from her interactions with them, including being disciplined by her mother through spankings and claims that her father was nearly absent, lead to negative effects on her adult relationships.

The initial reaction to Selah's video was one of shock as social media and gossip reporters took it to mean that Hill and Marley had problems. Selah has since come out with a statement posted to IG where she says her statements were taken out of context.

According to Yahoo, Selah posted the following on her IG story:

the discussion I had was a larger conversation about a certain trauma that I experienced from a lack of unity in the household...... but PLEASE do not go bashing my parents right now-especially my father. I never said that I did not love them. I said their shortcomings created trauma that I now need to consciously and actively heal from.

As for Lauryn Hill she took to her verified Facebook page and posted a lengthy response defending her daughter's right to express herself while also maintaining that the way she disciplined her was no different than what goes on in most black families.

Hill, who is the mother of six children, five of them fathered by Rohan Marley, said she speaks often with her eldest daughter and that they are both working through their own issues.
