Let’s get ready to rumble in Killeen, Texas! Just kidding, but it's most definitely time for a showdown for a life saving cause, and all of us in Central Texas should be on board.

It’s definitely one of my favorite times of the year - it’s the Battle of the Badges blood drive, during which the Killeen Police Department and the Killeen Fire Department compete to see who can drive the most blood donations.

RED VS BLUE

Chief Chuck Kimble and Chief Jim Kubinski are squaring off/teaming up to encourage the community to come out to help save a life or two, because at the end of the day it is up to us in the community to take care of those in need of potentially life saving blood.

This outstanding event will take place Thursday, August 18 from 9 AM until 2:45 at 2201 E. Veterans Memorial Blvd. at the Rosa Hefford Community Center.

Both Chiefs are asking you to donate to whichever department you choose, because in reality there are no losers when it’s about saving a life.

SAVE A LIFE, GRAB SOME SWAG, AND ENCOURAGE SOME FRIENDLY RIVALRY

Both departments are collecting blood donations for Carter Blood Care, who'll also be handing out beach towels to generous people who give blood. There'll also be prizes, music, and refreshments.

When you give blood, you'll be asked to cast a ballot for either Killeen PD or Killen Fire. While there are no "losers" when life saving donations are made, the department with the least votes has to wash the other department's vehicles!

So you should definitely show up and support your department. You can save a life and encourage some friendly rivalry between our local public servants. It's a win-win.

June 18 was National Wanna Get Away Day, and it got us to thinking of where Texans can get away from it all this summer and have a great time without breaking the bank.
