Jose Segarra Files for Killeen Mayor as 2026 Election Season Begins
A familiar face in Killeen has decided to make a major move. Former mayor and current city council member José Segarra has officially filed to run for mayor, according to the Killeen Daily Herald.

Who Is Council Member Jose Segarra?
Many residents are familiar with Segarra. Although the Chicago native currently serves on the city council, he has long been known in the community for Home Vets Realty, his real estate company, as well as for his previous term as mayor. In a statement, Segarra said that a mayor does not directly run city departments. Instead, the mayor leads through influence by building alignment, elevating priorities, and using the platform of the office to bring people and solutions to the table.
What Does The Council Member Jose Segarra Say About The City Of Killeen?
He went on to say that the reality is most mayors spend years learning how to be effective in the role, and by the time they truly understand it, their term is nearly over. “I’m running because Killeen can’t afford to lose years to a learning curve,” Segarra said. Segarra announced on Tuesday. As of now, no other candidates have officially filed, although fellow council member José Solomon has previously expressed interest in running for mayor. We will continue to keep the city updated as the race develops.
