The City of Killeen has designated the Killeen Community Center a shelter for Hurricane Harvey evacuees and Killeen citizens who may find themselves displaced by severe weather.

City Public Information Officer Allison G. Walker issued the following press release Friday afternoon:

-The City of Killeen is anticipating the potential for severe weather from Hurricane Harvey including high winds and heavy rain. Staff is monitoring the situation closely and is prepared to respond in the event of an emergency.

The City’s police and fire forces are on duty and prepared to respond in this event. Other personnel are on standby to deal with potential flooding of roadways and waterways.

The City has established shelter operations at Killeen Community Center in cooperation with State efforts to house evacuees. This shelter will be open to Killeen residents should they be displaced from their homes.

For up to date weather predictions, monitor local weather stations. In the event of an emergency, residents are advised to call 9-1-1.-
