The increase in grocery prices has been an ongoing discussion since the start of inflation. According to KWTX, a well-known, veteran-owned barbecue restaurant in Killeen may be struggling to keep prices affordable because of rising costs. Band of Brothers has been a go-to spot for residents seeking barbecue for years, but since COVID-19 and the winter freeze of 2021, the business has faced difficult times.

What Does The Owner Have To Say About The Increase?

Owner and operator of Band of Brothers, James Crawford stated, “We’ve actually had to talk about changing some things, and that’s just because of the prices.” At one point, Crawford was paying a little over two dollars per pound for premium brisket; now, that price is nearly eight dollars per pound, a dramatic increase.

Crawford went on to explain that in November 2019, brisket cost about eight dollars per pound. Currently, the restaurant charges $19 for a half-pound and $38 per pound. “If you do the cost analysis, my brisket should be at $52 a pound,” Crawford said. Because of rising prices at Band of Brothers, some customers have expressed concerns. Crawford stated that while Google reviews remain mostly positive, the most common complaint is about pricing. “People say we’re too pricey or too expensive, but I’m doing the best I can,” he said. Even as other businesses Crawford is familiar with continue to struggle as well, the question remains: when will enough be enough?
