Families in El Paso, Texas are celebrating graduation season with the final local high school graduations happening this week.

An El Paso family may not be celebrating a high school graduation, but they are celebrating a unique graduation of their own.

The Hospitals of Providence Celebrate one of its most remarkable graduates:

After a heroic 128-day stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), baby Cruz Ortega is finally heading home with his loving family.

Born on February 5, 2024, at just 23 weeks gestation and weighing only 1 pound, baby Cruz showed incredible strength and determination to get big and strong for his mom and dad.

According to hospital officials, the journey was long and challenging. Still, Cruz's progress was a testament to the resilience of this tiny fighter and the great care provided by the dedicated NICU team.

“Saying goodbye to our sweet NICU babies is always bittersweet but we are confident baby Cruz is going to do amazing things.  From the entire team at The Hospitals of Providence, we wish this beautiful family a lifetime of happiness. “

Congratulations, baby Cruz, on your remarkable journey and your first big graduation. The first of many! Here’s to a future as bright and strong as you are!
