When you think of iconic performers, the Queen of Tejano Music, the late Selena from from Lake Jackson, Texas, instantly pops up in people's minds. Anyone who's listened to her music or watched the 1997 film about Selena's life knows how talented she was and how sad it was when the world lost her at the age of 23.

If you watched the movie you know there was one scene where Selena performed on stage and the stage collapsed; in the movie it was portrayed in Mexico.

There's also something else to the story, according to Selena's father, it was much more dramatic in real life than in the movie. It also turns out the REAL stage collapse actually happened in Texas.

When did the stage collapse during Selena's show in Texas?

On November 26, 1994, Selena y Los Dinos were performing at the Dallas Convention Center Theatre; nearly throughout the show, things went pretty smoothly. The crowd was enthusiastic about watching Selena perform until they reached "Baila Esta Cumbia". In the middle of the song, Selena had to stop performing due to a stage issue...the stage was beginning to collapse.

After a few minutes of trying to calm the fans down, Selena had to get off the stage to allow stagehands & security to take care of the problem. And if THAT wasn't bad enough, concert goers stated that a fight broke out during the show. Eventually Selena was able to get back on stage to finish up her set.

Another crazy incident happened during a Selena concert in El Paso, Texas

In August of that same year, at the El Paso County Coliseum, a fan RUSHED on stage while Selena was performing "La Carcacha". Thankfully aside from being pushed, nothing serious happened. You can see the entire concert here.

The most amazing thing about BOTH of these shows was Selena's ability to not only keep performing, but she did an amazing job to try to keep the crowd calm during that Dallas incident.

It's the level of professional and talent is why we love Selena, and why we miss her so much.
