Capturing The Chaos: 3 Iconic Texas Tornado Photos
Texas has had a long history with tornadoes; much of that history has been documented in photos & footage. However some of the most famous photographs ever taken of tornadoes have been from Texas. These are 3 of probably the most well known in history.
The "Twister" Tornado
If you've seen the 1996 movie Twister, then you're probably familiar with THIS iconic photograph:
This photo has appeared on the movie's posters, as well as the movie's cover. The REAL photo was actually taken in Miami, Texas. This photo was taken by renowned storm chaser, Warren Faidley, while chasing an F1 tornado on May 28, 1994. The photo would become iconic for its use in the film's marketing. The FOOTAGE of the tornado is just as impressive too.
The "Scary Car Tornado"
While this tornado doesn't have an official name, it's nicknamed the "Scary Car Tornado" for a reason. Just look at how big it is compared to the car!
This photo of an F2 tornado was taken in Dimmitt, Texas by Harold Richer from the Project Vortex team on June 2, 1995. While no one was killed, 3 people were injured from the tornado. You can even see the exact same shot in the footage they captured of the tornadoes in that area.
The "Dead Man Walking" Tornado
Anyone who lived in Jarrell, Texas knows all to well the iconic/infamous photo of the Dead Man Walking photo that happened on May 27, 1997...
27 people would lose their lives in the tragedy. Sadly this wouldn't be the only time an F5 tornado would hit the state of Texas.
