Texas has been dealing with a polar vortex for the past few days with relative ease thanks to a lack of complementary winter precipitation, but now that a storm is approaching, many departments and governmental bodies are making proactive decisions to prepare for potential obstacles in navigating the conditions.

As of now, the widespread precipitation that is expected to hit a lot of the Lone Star State from about US Highway 84 and south is anticipated to only be rain, but as you move north there are very good projections for the rain to become a freezing rain, sleet, wintry mix, and yes snow.

According to this KWTX article, Killeen has announced plans to close the WS Young Drive Bridge just south of Atkinson Avenue beginning on Thursday, January 9th at 5:30 in the evening until further notice wants the all clear is given. At this time, most weather predictors believe the weather should clear the area by noon, and realistically, once the temperatures are safely above the freezing point, the roads should be safe to travel.

For right now, expect to detour for at least the nighttime hours on Thursday, and do not be surprised if the reopening of South WS Young Drive is not delayed somewhat to make sure our temperatures are well clear of the freezing point, and not in danger of slipping back below 33 degrees.
