A case in Houston, Texas had many eyes upon it for the potential consequences for the future instances of this happening. We'll detail the situation, as well as the final ruling.

The Case Described

FOX 26 reports that this case began back in 2020. According to the news organization, Marques Jamal Jackson and his girlfriend, given the name "Jane Doe" in the case, ended their relationship. According to the evidence in the case, Jackson, after the break-up, violated his ex-girlfriend's professional and personal accounts by breaking into them and stole her identity.

According to Bradford J. Gilde, the lead trial attorney in the case, Jackson wanted to make the unidentified female's life worse. Gilde also revealed a statement from Marques, which was as follows: "[Y]ou will spend the rest of your life trying and failing to wipe yourself off the internet. Everyone you ever meet will hear the story and go looking. Happy Hunting."

The trial has recently closed, and the jury's verdict is one that may dissuade another individual from trying to do what Marques did.

Verdict In The Case

FOX 26 reports that the jury in the case made the decision to award Doe $1.2 Billion in damages.

Gilde stated in regards to the decision: "We are grateful the jury took a strong stand against the defendant’s abhorrent behavior and against image-based sexual abuse...We will forever admire D.L.’s courage in fighting back. We hope the staggering amount of this verdict sends a message of deterrence and prevents others from engaging in this despicable activity."
