AT&T Settles A Class Action Lawsuit

AT&T has agreed to pay a total of 177 million dollars following a class action lawsuit in 2024. The lawsuit was filed by customers who were affected by two data breaches last year.

Two Data Breaches at AT&T Reveal Customer Information

The first data breach occurred in March of 2024 and involved customer addresses, social security numbers, birthdates, passcodes, billing numbers and phone numbers. The information was released on the dark web. In July 2024, a smaller amount of customer data was illegally downloaded.

Who Can File a Claim in the Settlement?

Customers who were affected by the data breaches can file a claim after checking to see if their name is included in the settlement. The process is easy. Go to this website and click on submit claim. You will then be asked for information such as email address, AT&T account number, or class member ID. If you are eligible, more information will be needed to submit a claim. The deadline is Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

How Much Money Is Available For AT&T Customers?

Customers who were affected by both data breaches could receive a check for up to 7,500 dollars. Customers affected by the March 2024 breach could receive up to 5,000 dollars. Those affected by the July 2024 breach could receive up to 2,500 dollars.

The AT&T Payments Are Based on the Type of Information Revealed in the Breach

In a nutshell, if your social security information was included in the data breach, you are looking at a bigger payout. The payments are divided into three tiers.

Tier 1-March Breach; Social Security number involved

Tier 2-March Breach; Social Security number was not involved

Tier 3-July Breach; Regular customers

-Payment amount is whatever is left over after all other payments are made

Claims may be filed online or mailed and received/postmarked by the deadline.
