Tattoos are a really cool expression and obsession.  It's a way to display the things you love or hate on your skin and a chance for the tattoo artist to create a piece of body art.

Many people have tattoos, 32% of adults in the US have a tattoo.  People are getting new tattoos every day.  That's why if you are going to see your favorite tattoo artists be vigilant about asking them about their pigments.

Tattoo Pigment Recall

According to the FDA, Sierra Stain LLC out of Carson City, Nevada, is recalling 3 of its water-based tattoo pigments.  The reason for the recall is the pigments are contaminated with high concentrations of microorganisms.  Those microorganisms can create health concerns for those who are injected with the pigment during the tattooing process.

Symptoms can include rashes or lesions where the ink was applied.  These infections could result in permanent scarring.

These are the pigments believed to be contaminated.

These Bloodline pigments were distributed through Amazon to all 50 states. As of this time, no illnesses have been reported due to the pigment.

Those tattoo artists and retailers with this pigment should avoid using or selling the product and dispose of it in a sharps container or biohazard container.

The companies who produced the pigment, Bloodline Inks, and Sierra Stain are no longer in business and the products are no longer being manufactured.  If you do have questions about their pigments you can reach them by email at sierrastain@gmail.com.

If you believe that you have received a tattoo with these products and have had a medical reaction to the product you can report the injury to MedWatch: FDA’s Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program.
