This new change meant that all mail sent to inmates in any TDCJ Jail or Prison in the state would now be digitized, and sent to the inmate through a tablet assigned to them.  Inmates in the TDCJ began receiving these tablets in 2022.

The change from physical mail in the TDCJ to digital went into effect on September 6, 2023, with one address for all inmates. With this change, inmates no longer have physical letters, cards, or even pictures to hold onto.  It is now all contained in their tablet.

Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) is Now Following Suit With Digital Mail

All physical mail for ODOC inmates will now be sent to a central location scanned and then sent to the inmate's tablet.  The inmates will receive a digital color image of their letters and pictures.   They will no longer be able to have their physical letters or pictures.

The ODOC is implementing this system for enhanced security.  There have been issues of drugs being smuggled into the prisons through physical letters sent to the inmates.  The ODOC believes that this endangered the lives of the inmates and the staff that handled the drug-laden mail.

All regular mail will be sent to a Securus digital processing center in Dallas, Texas.  From there the mail will be scanned and uploaded to the appropriate inmate tablet.  If the inmate would like a physical copy of the mail, they can pay a fee to have it printed.

The change to the ODOC mail system will go into effect on September 1st, 2024.

Here is where you will need to send mail for any inmate in an ODOC prison.

Inmate's Full Name and ODOC Number
Securus Digital Mail Center - Okla. Dept. Of Corrections
PO Box 223566
Dallas, TX  75222-3566

There will be a grace period for all mail sent.  All mail postmarked by September 25, and in the facility by September 30, 2024, will still be given to the inmate.  After that date, the mail will be returned to the sender.
