A White Settlement man was recently arrested after police found multiple explosive devices and assorted firearms in his vehicle with which he planned to attack a local church.

White Settlement Arrest of a Suspicious Person

According to the White Settlement website, police responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle parked inside of a neighborhood in the early morning. As officers approached the vehicle, a white passenger van, they saw a man sitting in the driver's seat with a handgun resting in his lap.

Officers began talking with the man, attempting to avoid any unnecessary conflict. During their conversations, they discovered that the man was experiencing some severe mental health issues.

Eventually, police were able to grab the gun from the driver's lap before removing him from the vehicle. The man was detained immediately after.

Armed Explosives and Guns

White Settlement PD noticed, in the front passenger seat, what looked to be an improvised explosive device. Further inspection revealed a second explosive device towards the back of the van.

A perimeter was immediately set up around the van, and the Fort Worth Fire Department Bomb Squad was requested for assistance. Officers were able to confirm the validity of both explosive devices. They also discovered a rifle and an AR-style pistol in the vehicle, marking three total firearms including the handgun in the driver's lap.

WFAA reported that the man told police he was planning on using the bombs and weapons in an attack on a local church.

Soon after, the vehicle was towed and the bombs were safely removed. The man was taken in to custody and sent to a local medical facility while awaiting criminal charges.
