In the month of March, Texas received a notification to use the Texas Rent Relief Program as a source of assistance if needed. The Texas Rent Relief Program was a system that assisted over 300,000 Texans. COVID-19 had affected Texans across the state and the Texas Rent Relief Program provided over $2 billion in emergency funds to help Texas renters pay rent and utilities, including past due rent and late utilities. At the beginning of April, I wrote an article stating that the Texas Rent Relief Program had shut down.

It was only 52 hours after Texas opened up the application portal and the state was forced to shut down due to extraordinarily high demands. Now that it has been a two-month since Texans had an opportunity to apply for the Texas Rent Relief Program, the question at hand is will Texans get a chance again to submit applications for Rent Relief at all for the 2023 or 2024 year? There are a lot of Texans who definitely depended on this program to assist them when times were tough. A lot of Texans this year have found themselves in financial distress, and even homeless.

According to the Texas Rent Relief Program, the last updated statement was on March 30th. Texas Rent Relief Program has committed all available funds and is now closed. I called the Texas Rent Relief Program personally and asked if there was any time frame or even a window of time when we could expect the Texas Rent Relief Program to be active again, the representative explained to me that as of right now there is no timeframe.
