The City of Killeen is giving residents a heads-up if they have anything that may be considered 'hazardous' that they need to dispose of.

Residents of Killeen are invited to participate in a free Household Hazardous Waste Collection event taking place in Hamilton on April 13th.

The event will be held at the Jayson Harris Pavilion at 1007 Park Road in Hamilton. There will be numerous items accepted for collection at the event such as, paints, pesticides, herbicides, household cleaners, acids, automotive chemicals, and automobile batteries.

Other items such as cooking oil, fluorescent bulbs, and household batteries will also be accepted.

Materials brought to the collection should be in their original containers if all possible. The containers should be loaded carefully and secured for transport to prevent any spilling of the fluids.

Items that will not be accepted include, brush, explosives, pressurized containers, fire alarms, and smoke detectors. Also, tires will not be taken for Bell County residents that make their way to the event on Saturday.

The regional collection will be made possible by a partnership with the Central Texas Council of Governments, and is open to residents of Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Milam, Mills, and San Saba counties.

For a list of everything that can be accepted and will be denied, check out killeentexas.gov/recycle.
