Looking Back on the Good Times As Iconic Killeen, Texas Restaurant Closes
Every city has that one family restaurant that gives you down-home Southern comfort American food, and Killeen, Texas is no different. For years, the Hallmark Restaurant has been that place for many of us, but now it looks like we've reached the end of an era.
I HATE GOODBYES, SO LET'S JUST SAY SEE YOU LATER
It really does hurt my heart to say that the meal I enjoyed there Sunday will be the last I'll ever have ordered from the Hallmark Restaurant at 4402 E Central Texas Expressway. They have officially closed.
Hallmark was an American-style restaurant that's always specialized in comfort food. I remember being a little girl and my family and I would religiously go to all-you-can-eat catfish night every Wednesday. Hallmark never disappointed until now with the news that the kitchen's now closed at this Killeen landmark.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR KILLEEN, TEXAS?
I spoke with a couple of servers and asked them what, if anything, would be replacing the Hallmark. No one was really sure. I did hear one person say that they were told Hallmark could potentially be turned into a sushi or noodle bar, but only time will tell.
THANK YOU HALLMARK FOR THE MEMORIES
Whatever ends up opening there, it just won't be the same as that iconic breakfast spot. After a late Saturday night going into a Sunday morning, you got one of the best hometown Southern breakfasts you ever had in your life - chicken fried steaks as big as your face, coffee strong just like how we like it, and smiling faces from everyone in the staff.
I remember when Lion's Kettle was closing down and a lot of us were heartbroken, but we took some comfort in knowing that the Hallmark would still be open.
Now that this nostalgic and monumental restaurant would be leaving, I don’t know who’s ready to step up to the plate when it comes to great comfort food and hospitality, but I am very eager to see it.
Thank you for all the memories, Hallmark!
