Gabrielle Union to Star in ‘Bad Boys’ Spinoff for Television
With the BET drama Being Mary Jane ending in 2018, it looks like Gabrielle Union will be out of job, right? Wrong.
According to Deadline, Union is currently developing a spinoff TV series based on her character she played in 2003's Bad Boys II. In the sequel, Union played Special Agent Sydney “Syd” Burnett, who is the sister of Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and the love interest to Marcus’ partner, Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowrey (Will Smith).
The untitled Bad Boys spinoff is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and written by The Blacklist writers-producers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. Primary Wave Entertainment, which manages Union, is also executive producing the series as well.
The project is currently being shopped around to various television networks and is expected to land a major commitment real soon.
Now that Being Mary Jane will end in 2018 with a 2-hour series finale movie, this will certainly leave Union opened to work on her next small screen project.
Currently, Union is raising eyebrows with her frank talk about backdoor pleasures while promoting her latest book, We’re Going to Need More Wine.
