Having a live Christmas tree can be a beautiful experience for your family this time of year. Then it comes time to get rid of it before it rots and gets needles everywhere, and the experience is less heartwarming.

The Copperas Cove Solid Waste Department and Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful are teaming up to make the process a little easier. They'll take the tree off your hands for free recycling, and if you get it to them early, you could even get a reward.

From January 4 through 8, Copperas Cove residents can take their tree to the Transfer Station at 2605 S FM 116 between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM. They'll accept it free of charge, but they do ask that you remove all ornaments, lights, tinsel, and other decorations beforehand.

Keep Copperas Cove Beautiful will give a free tree sapling to the first 30 people who drop off a tree, so if you're looking to plant a tree and keep Cove looking green, here's an opportunity.

If your schedule doesn't allow for dropping off a tree, you can leave it out for complimentary curbside collection. Just leave the tree by the curb and the City will pick it up on your regularly scheduled brush collection day.

Again, always double and triple check your tree to make sure you removed everything from it before dropping it off or laying it on the curb. You don't want to accidently throw out an ornament or decoration with significance to your family, especially the ones your kids may have made.
