The Mayor of cities in Bell County have written an open letter to residents of Bell County reminding them that healthcare workers are exhausted, and you may not be admitted to area hospitals because of the uptick in COVID-19 hospitalizations.

The letter was signed by Spencer Smith, mayor of Harker Heights, Jose Segarra, mayor of Killeen, Timothy Davis, mayor of Temple, and Wayne Carpenter, mayor of Belton.

The letter begins by informing Bell County residents that COVID-19 patients have filled beds in their hospitals and there isn’t any room available for people who have had a stroke, heart attack, or another severe medical condition.

The letter continues with a plea to the public to get vaccinated, and stressed that 93% of COVID-19 patients hospitalized are unvaccinated, while 96% of those who are an ICU for COVID-19 are unvaccinated

Mayor Segarra of Killeen told our news partner KWTX that people in Killeen are getting tested for COVID-19, but his push to get more people vaccinated is not working.

Here is the full letter:

Everyone knows that getting the vaccine is your choice, so do the proper amount of research using data from reputable sources before making your decision.

If you choose not to be vaccinated, at the very least try to mask up in public to protect yourself and others, and give people plenty of space.

We're all beyond tired of hearing about and dealing with this pandemic, but we can't put it behind us until more people decide they want to help.
