Military Sexual Trauma Survivors in Killeen Have a New Sanctuary

For years, I’ve heard rumors of sexual harassment occurring on the Central Texas military base, Fort Hood. There are many stories of harassment, sexual assault, and even dangerous forms of bullying, but little has ever been formally proven. According to KCENT, people who were once victims may now feel protected enough to come forward and share their stories.

Will This New Safe Space Change the Game for Killeen MST Survivors?

Major Blaine McGraw, a Fort Hood OB/GYN, has been suspended after allegations surfaced that more than 100 women were possibly sexually assaulted by the physician. The reality is that sexual assault happens every day, and many women feel like they are not being heard. Incidents like these—whether at Fort Hood or elsewhere—are often overlooked or forgotten.

The good news is that women in Central Texas may no longer feel this way. Shield of Sisters is now partnering with Restorative Help Sanctuary, which has dedicated itself to being a safe place for Killeen survivors to process their trauma without judgment, paperwork, or cost. Jo Harrison, the Director of Survivor Support Services for Shield of Sisters, stated, “We wanted them to have a place where they could come and actually say how they felt or even process the information.”

Where Is Restorative Help Sanctuary Located?

This establishment is located off Stan Schluter and is open Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary, and survivors can walk in whenever they feel ready. For a long time, individuals felt like they weren’t being heard—now, they’ll finally have a chance to use their voices.
