Fort Hood, Texas Soldier Charged After Stray Bullet Strikes Woman
(Killeen, Texas) - I'm sad to report that a Fort Hood soldier was recently arrested and charged after police say he mishandled a firearm and injured an innocent bystander.
WHAT HAPPENED IN KILLEEN?
Khadeeja Umana with KXXV-TV recently reported that 28-year-old Cesar Pena-Euresti was charged with deadly conduct discharges firearm towards habitation, building, person after being arrested over the past weekend.
Police say they responded to a shots fired call around 9 AM Sunday in the 2600 block of Andover Drive. According to them, investigators learned that Pena-Euresti was outside a residence in the neighborhood when he fired a gun at random. Unfortunately, the bullet struck a woman in a nearby home. She was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple in stable condition.
Pena-Euresti was arraigned on Tuesday, November 22, and his bond was set at $100,000.
What Did We Learn?
Texas is a very gun-friendly state, and obviously plenty of soldiers will be armed. That said, they should know how important gun safety and responsibility is. When something like this happens, it's a grim reminder that guns are not toys.
It’s so unfortunate when innocent bystanders are at the wrong place at the wrong time, but it's downright tragic when someone is just relaxing in their home and ends up seriously injured. This young lady had literally nothing to do with this situation happening outside her home. I can only pray for the best for her and her family.
