Our friends in the weather department at KWTX are warning you of the cold temperatures we are about to experience in the Killeen, Texas area going into Thursday.

How Cold Will It Get In Central Texas?

According to meteorologist Camille Hoxworth, we will get below freezing temperatures by midnight and will wake up to "high blustery winds" Thursday morning. Temperatures will be well into the 20s.

Also, you should expect freezing rain. You may want to get that winter coat if last year's storm taught Texans anything, it's that they'd better own one just in case) or layer your clothing for the morning commute if you are going to be outside.

Here's the crazy thing about it - the temperature will go back up later on during the day Thursday.

Don't Worry We Will Back To Normal, Kinda

Camille says that by dinner-time Thursday we will jump right back into the 50s, then down into the 40s by 10 pm.

We are on a wintry see-saw, people!

Reportedly this won't be anything near last year's deep freeze, but seeing slick spots on roads and overpasses and even a light glaze of ice on the grass can't be ruled out.

The City of Killeen Is Opening A Warming Shelter Again

Rosa Hereford Community Center (2201 E Veterans Memorial Blvd.) as a warming center Wednesday, January 19 from 8 PM to 8 AM the next morning. They'll open it again Thursday, January 20 from 6 PM to 8AM the following morning.

The community center won't be offering full shelter services. It's just a place to get out of the cold. Still, that's welcome relief for anyone in need, so if you know someone, please get this information to them. Also, make sure they're there by 11:30 PM at the latest. If no one shows up by then, the shelter will be shut down.

How Long Will The Cold Weather Stay?

According to Camille, the freezing weather will be around through the weekend with frigid temperatures Thursday and Friday night. Saturday it will cold all day with highs in the 30s.

Seeing as though no one wears Eskimo coats around here (or do you?), do your best to bundle and layer up. This cold is real out here!
