Cold weather has arrived in Central Texas, and in response, the City of Killeen has announced a partnership with Friends in Crisis to enhance the warming center at the Friends in Crisis Shelter, located at 412 E. Sprott St. From Tuesday, February 18 through Thursday, February 20, the shelter’s doors will open at noon to provide a warm place for the community. The city will continue to monitor the weather and provide updates regarding the warming center’s hours if necessary.

Texans are reminded that if temperatures or windchill factors are forecasted to fall below 32°F, the warming center will be open. Additionally, city buildings, including libraries, recreation centers, police headquarters, and City Hall, will be open to the public during normal business hours for warming and cooling purposes.
