UPDATE: Shortly after 3:30 PM, Killeen ISD issued an alert informing parents that no weapon had been found, and that the Ellison campus had been reopened.

Killeen's Ellison High School was placed on lockdown Friday afternoon due to rumors of a weapon on campus. The lockdown came mere hours after the school was evacuated due to a fire.

At 1:46 PM, Killeen ISD parents were sent a notification reading,

Ellison is currently being locked down due to a rumor of a weapon on campus. Killeen ISD takes all threats seriously and is currently investigating the allegations with assistance of Killeen Police. Please do not come to our campus at this time. A message will be sent when the campus is out of the lockdown.

The safety of all students and staff is our highest priority.

As mentioned above, the lockdown came not long after students and staff were evacuated due to a fire.

At 9:32 AM, Killeen ISD issued a news release reading,

There was a small fire in a restroom at Ellison High School around 9:12 a.m. KISD is grateful for the quick response from the Killeen Fire Department. The building was quickly evacuated, and students and staff will remain outside until the all-clear is given by the fire department. The cause has not been determined at this time.

Killeen ISD issued the following update at 11:08 AM:

All students and staff have returned inside of Ellison high school following a small fire. We are grateful for the quick response by the Killeen Fire Department and their continued support and communication with the school district. There are no additional details surrounding the investigation into the fire at the time.

No injuries had been reported by KISD or police as of early Friday afternoon. We're awaiting more information.
