With the heatwave coming to the state of Texas, many are looking to keep cool when the sun is blazing. Hotels in the Central Texas area are even offering pool passes for those we need a place to cool off during the summer. But if somebody in Texas can't swim, what could they do?

What Is The Data About Swimming In Texas?

According to KXAN, there have been cases of drowning in the Lone Star State. Per the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, there have been 15 cases of a child losing their life because of drowning in the state. Last year's number of drowning deaths was 103.

Because of those losses of life, concerns have grown over young children drowning in Texas. Texas DFPS even stated “Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death for kids under the age of five and toddlers are especially at risk.” So what is being done to help?

For one organization in Texas, they're making efforts for parents in the state to afford very important swimming lessons for their little ones.

Who Is Helping Parents In Central Texas Pay For Swimming Lessons?

As reported by KXAN, the Hope Floats Foundation takes donations from businesses in the Central Texas and uses them to help children learn how to swim. British Swim Schools are where young children can learn how to swim, at a lower price as well.

According to Brian Borchardt, owner of the Austin British Swim School said of Hope Floats Foundation's monetary help:

“Hope Floats provides 90% scholarships to kids’ families who are on the free or reduced lunch program. If they’re eligible for that, they’re eligible to get a 90% scholarship that’s good for three months of swim lessons.”

The British Swim School has multiple locations, with them being in Buda, Kyle, New Braunfels, and San Marcos. For more information the Hope Floats Foundation, click here.
