There're few things more frustrating than being broke, especially during a holiday like Valentine's Day when there's a lot of pressure to do something romantic. However, I'm a woman who's always known how to improvise, and now I'm going to share some tricks and budget hacks with the good people of Killeen, Texas that prove you don't have to break the bank to make Valentine's Day special.

BALLING ON A BUDGET

Sometime we just don't have the money to spend on that expensive T-bone, crab cakes, and risotto with scallops, and that's ok.

One thing I've learned is that you can never go wrong with a thoughtful picnic. All you need is some simple food, a nice place to lay the blanket or tablecloth, and maybe even some candles. You can even use your phone to supply the romantic music or a Netflix movie to enjoy together.

It's super cute and extra romantic.

LOVE DON'T COST A THING

When we think of Valentine's Day gifts, our minds seem to immediately go to expensive, lavish gifts. Sometimes it's the simple things that show you care.

Something like, for instance, a homemade coupon book. All you need to do is write out a few coupons for cute or helpful things you can do for your mate, like a one day massage pass, an offer to do all the cooking for a week, or my favorite, a coupon offering to take care of the kids for a week while your loved one takes some time to relax.

(It's not all kisses and hugs. Sometimes love is just getting to take a break!)

IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT

Last but not least, Valentine's Day is about the reminders of why we love each other. Don't forget that.

There's nothing wrong with making a nice dinner at home for just the two of you, maybe with a little wine and candlelight, and just talking about why and how much you love and appreciate each other. Maybe it's been a while since you've told them how much you appreciate them, or just had a really great conversation.

A simple dinner made with love and some one-on-one time together can make for a perfect night.
