CeeLo Green believes he might have overreacted when he lashed out at Super Bowl protesters in a now-deleted tweet, and because of that, he's offered an apology.

During a Monday (Feb. 4) TMZ interview, the veteran artist, who dropped "Brick Road" last year, made known the regret he feels about his outburst as he apologized to anyone who was offended by his derogatory tweet following Big Boi's performance at the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show. CeeLo's apology came after TMZ's Harvey Levin asked him if he'd use that inflammatory language addressing Super Bowl protesters again.

"No, I wouldn't. I would've chosen my words a lot carefully and I wouldn't have done it that way," Green said. "To anyone that I offended, I sincerely apologize to you, but I still support Big Boi. I still support Dungeon Family and I still support Atlanta, Georgia."

At an earlier point of the interview, CeeLo provided some context for his tweet, which came in response to people protesting the Super Bowl because of the NFL's perceived black-balling of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

"It was not meant to be a political statement, but a personal statement because I of course can relate to being under the pressure and scrutiny of opposed popular opinion," Green told TMZ. "I've also had situations in the past where I have spoken freely on these social platforms that have been taken out of context. People have to realize that me and Big Boi have been friends and extended family for the past 25 years, and we talk on a personal level. I knew what a lot of the tension and apprehension was, and I wanted to show some solidarity for him."

CeeLo's controversial tweet came after Big Boi hit the stage to perform at the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show. In the tweet, CeeLo wrote, "@BigBoi yo big we riding wit you fam DO THAT S***! F*** these so called protesters you just got 100m worth of press. I’ll kill for you. #wedf #DFTODEATH."
